In 1605 Duke François-Annibal d'Estrées gave the Carthusian monks of Vauvert a mysterious old manuscript with a recipe for an elixir of life. And so the Chartreuse tradition was born: the monks have been making their legendary liqueurs ever since.
Green Chartreuse is the only naturally green liqueur in the world. Even today only two monks know the names of the 130 plants used to make it, and how to mix and distill them to perfection.
With their strong aromatic flavour and rich historical tradition, the Chartreuse liqueurs are a true classic, and a proud part of French gastronomical heritage.
