Mar de Frades - Spanish white wine 100% Albariño
A fresh and delicate albariño with a salty character.
Mar de Frades is a delicate and subtle albariño, with particular marine and mineral notes. The temperature of the wine is an important element in its tasting, that's why the wine label is made with heat-sensitive ink. A classic of the D.O. Rias Baixas!
Albariño, a varietal white from Spain
Mar de Frades is produced in the Rias Baixas, with grapes coming from the terraces south of Mount Valiñas, in the Salnés Valley.
In Mar de Frades we find the influence of the proximity of Ria de Arousa and the ocean breezes that give it a salty character. The sand in the vineyard soils is poor and shallow, resulting from the erosion of the granite, which gives the wine a certain minerality.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are sorted with the utmost care (20 to 25% of the harvest is not kept) and then macerated for 10 to 20 hours. After a light crushing, the result is a delicate and very aromatic wine.
A label to watch out for!
Mar de Frades expresses its full potential when cooled to 10-11°C. So that you can be sure that the tasting temperature is right, a blue ship appears on the waves of the heat-sensitive label!
- Robe: crystalline profile, with a lemon colour and hints of green apple peel.
- Nose: floral notes (jasmine and violet) mixed with fennel, mango, apricots and citrus fruits, which accompany the intensity of the salty notes.
- Palate: freshness and suppleness. It is sublime, bold and powerful, reaching a sophisticated and Atlantic finish.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine with salty and floral notes will go wonderfully with marine flavours: oysters, cooked or raw seafood, white fish in sauce or grilled white fish.
Its power on the palate also allows it to accompany dishes such as pork fillets or matured cheeses.
The Mar de Frades cellar
At the beginning of the 1980s, a group of winegrowers recovered endemic varieties and in particular the Albariño. The Mar de Frades winery is now anchored in the Galician landscape, with more than twenty years of existence. The Albariño mixes in its grapes the humidity of the soil with the Atlantic breeze, on a decomposed granite sand soil, which gives it a surprising saline and mineral side!
