A well-kept recipe

The bergamot recipe came to us thanks to Sisters Marguerite Gaillot and Marie-Elisabeth Morlot from the Nancy Bless Sacraments Sisters.

Catherine de Vaudemont, daughter of Duke Charles the III rd founded the Bless Sacraments Order in Nancy. Any consumption of meat was forbidden within the monaster and the Sisters soon became experts in making of tasty confectioneries among which the famous bergamots and macarons.
During the French Revolution, when the religious Orders were abolished by a law, Sisters Marguerite and Marie-Elisabeth fled at Doctor Gormand's place, the Order's physician.
Soon, to make their living, they decided to start selling their macarons and bergamots and became famous as the Macarons sisters !
