In the early 1830's, in a pretty, peaceful town called Cambrai, Grandfather AFCHAIN - at that time an apprentice confectioner working for his parents - made a mistake in the recipe when told to prepare some sweets.
His mother scolded him : "Your sweets are not good. You made a mistake in the recipe ! "
But the sweets sold very well and were in much demand because they were refreshing, good for the digestion and above all delicious. They were called "BETISES" or foolishness because they were the result of a mistake in preparation. That is how Grandfather AFCHAIN invented the BETISES DE CAMBRAI...
