A convivial and festive fruit which has been in the center of family evenings in the Cevennes for several centuries and which perfume was dispersed in every fête in every town. A fruit which has unjustly been forgotten and which today is being rediscovered...

Towards the creation of a guarantee of "Sweet chestnuts of the Cévennes"

The varieties of sweet chestnuts which are found in the Cévennes have been selected through the years to adapt to local conditions (climate and soils) and to produce fruits which can be preserved through the whole year.

For this reason, the sweet chestnuts of the Cévennes are relatively smaller than those of other regions. In this way you will often need 100 to 120 sweet chestnuts from the Cévennes to make a kilogram whereas today you find modern species which only counts 60 or 80 fruits per kilogram.

Anyway, the little sweet chestnut from the Cévennes is also characterized by its perfumed taste. To promote them, the producers from the Cévennes have started to think about the creation of a guaranteed designation of the "Sweet chestnuts of the Cevennes". To achieve this, an association was created in late 1993...

The sweet chestnut is a fruit which progressively regains popularity. In association with producers from other regions (Midi-Pyrénées, Corsica) and other countries (Spain, Italy), we work on the project of establishing an European chestnut road.

The modernization of our installations...

Verfeuille still is a young company. We still need more equipment's. In 1999, we bought a new oven. In the year 2000, we modernize the sorting chain and build an extension to our building so we can better organize the management of our supplies and stock.

This year we also start to sell our products on Internet.
